Everything in life has energy.
That includes your body, your thoughts, your emotions, and your horse.
You can think of energy like a mood your body is in. Some moods feel tight and heavy. Others feel calm and open. These moods shape how we see the world and how we react to it.
In the Michelle Method, we call these different moods our inner state. Your inner state acts like a pair of glasses. Whatever state you are in changes how everything looks and feels, including your horse.
When a rider feels calm and safe inside, the horse often relaxes too.
When a rider feels tense, ashamed, or frustrated, the horse usually feels it right away.
There is a wide range of inner states. Some feel very heavy, like shame or fear. These are the states where we feel small, stuck, or disconnected. Other states feel lighter, like calm, trust, and joy. These are the states where we feel more free and more ourselves.
Shame is one of the hardest states to live in. It makes riders doubt themselves and blame their horse or their body. Horses feel this tension and often shut down or resist.
On the other end is a state where we feel safe, connected, and at peace. In this place, there is less forcing and more listening. Horses move better here because they feel understood.
Most people do not live in just one state all the time. We move up and down throughout the day. That is normal. You might feel calm during grooming, frustrated during riding, and proud after a good moment. Being human means we shift.
The goal of the Michelle Method is not to be perfect or calm all the time. The goal is awareness. When you notice your inner state, you can choose how to respond instead of reacting.
As you heal old stress and habits inside yourself, your horse feels the change. Your timing improves. Your patience grows. Your partnership becomes more trusting.
And this does not stop at the barn.
The same awareness helps you talk to people with more kindness.
Handle stress with more ease.
Move through life with less struggle.
Your inner state matters.
For your horse.
For your partnership.
For your life.
When you change the energy you bring, everything you touch begins to change too.
