Sometimes we forget who we really are.
It is like a rider getting so focused on “doing it right” that they forget to feel the horse underneath them. The ride starts to feel stiff. Something feels off, even if nothing looks wrong.
This is what happens when we live only in our ego.
We start believing we are our roles. The perfect rider. The struggling rider. The coach. The fixer. When things do not go how we planned, we get frustrated and start looking outside ourselves for answers.
But the problem is not out there.
In The Michelle Method, we never try to fix a horse by forcing results. We focus on the process. We show up, do the work, and then allow the body to adapt in its own time.
Riders must do the same.
You are meant to try your best. To care. To show up with effort. But you are not meant to carry the weight of the outcome. When you cling too tightly to results, tension builds. In your body. In your mind. In your horse.
A tense rider creates a tense horse.
When you let go of needing to prove something, the ride softens. The partnership becomes clearer. You and your horse can breathe again.
Life works the same way.
You were not put here to perform perfectly or win every moment. You were put here to play your part honestly. No one else can do it like you. That is what makes it meaningful.
But here is the key.
Your role is important, not heavy. When life feels like a burden, it is usually because we are gripping too hard. When we loosen that grip, gratitude shows up. So does joy.
In riding, in business, and in relationships, this balance matters.
Show up fully.
Care deeply.
Do the work.
Then let go.
The good moments will pass.
The hard moments will pass.
And through all of it, you and your horse can move forward together with more ease.
That is real freedom.
